Sandra “Sandy” Marrs Young

Sandy Marrs Young graduated from El Paso High School in 1964, where she was a Varsity

Cheerleader, President of the Orchesis Club (Modern Dance), recipient of the Outstanding

Girl in Modern Dance II award, a member of Senior National Honor Society, and a Spring

Fiesta Princess.

After high school, Sandy attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and later pursued

graduate studies at UCLA for two years. She began her teaching career at Coronado High

School, where she taught Modern Dance before becoming the director of the drill team, the

T-Bird Sidekicks, the combination of both was eight years.

In 1984, twenty years after graduation, Sandy and the original EPHS Varsity Cheerleaders

reunited to cheer once again at a postponed football game against Austin High School. They

even had new uniforms made for the occasion, celebrating their lasting Tiger spirit.

Beyond her teaching career, Sandy was also an active member of Dance Theater El Paso,

where she choreographed musicals in collaboration with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
