Martha Lou Florence Broaddus

Martha Lou Florence Broaddus was born on October 12, 1939. She graduated from El Paso High School in 1957, where she was a cheerleader, a member of the Top Ten, and served as a class officer. She went on to attend Texas Western College, graduating in 1960. While there, she was again recognized among the Top Ten Seniors and was a proud Miner Cheerleader.

After graduation, Martha Lou dedicated her career to education. She began teaching English at Irvin High School and later at Tech High School. She also taught in the English Department at UTEP as well as at El Paso Community College. Returning to her alma mater, she served as the Student Activities Director at El Paso High School for nearly two decades, guiding and inspiring generations of students.

Martha Lou was also deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of P.E.O., the UTEP Women’s Auxiliary, and the UTEP Heritage House. A devoted member of St. Luke’s Church, she lived her life with faith, joy, and service.

She was a woman of joy, compassion, and kindness—a role model, teacher, and beloved mother and grandmother. Known for her radiant smile, sense of humor, and love of animals
