A Proud Tiger from the Class of 1952
Cedric Hustace, a distinguished artist, attorney, musician, and athlete, is a proud graduate of El Paso High School's Class of 1952. Although his professional career would take him across the United States and around the world, he maintained strong ties to his El Paso roots throughout his life.
Education and Legal Career
Following graduation from El Paso High School, Hustace attended Texas Western College (now UTEP). After serving three years in the United States Army, he earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1963. He practiced law in St. Louis and Evansville before retiring in 2002.
An Accomplished Artist
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Hustace creates impressionistic paintings celebrating architecture, landscapes, portraits, and cultural experiences. He received numerous honors, including the 2002 Artist of the Year Award from the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana and recognition as the Indiana State Bar's Artist Laureate.
Legacy at UTEP
His paintings in UTEP's permanent collection include Old Main, Homecoming Parade, The Early Years, UTEP Campus View – Centennial Museum, The Lhakhang at Twilight, Bhutanese Spirit Figure, College of Business Administration, Alumni House, Courtyard, and Leech Grove.
The El Paso High School Painting
In 2002, to commemorate the 50th Reunion of the El Paso High School Class of 1952, Hustace created this beautiful painting of the school's iconic campus. The painting was donated by the Class of 1952 as a tribute to their beloved alma mater.
Beyond Art
In addition to his accomplishments as an artist and attorney, Hustace is an accomplished musician and USA Track & Field National Masters Championship racewalker. In 2011, he served as Resident Artist aboard Oceania Cruises' inaugural voyage of the m/s Marina.
