Betty Garcia Flores, proud graduate of the class of 1962, was active in Student Council, a member of FFA, FHA clubs & on the Spur Staff. Betty graduated from Texas Western (UTEP), with a Master’s degree in education, Special Education and Reading Specialist.
Betty spent the next 46 years teaching a wide range of subjects, from ABCs to life skills, to kindergartners who thought glue was a food group, to special education students who taught her more than she ever taught them.
Married for over 60 years—proof that miracles do happen—raising three wonderful children, all now in their late 50s and early 60s!
Betty keeps in touch with her ’62 friends even now, proving that she found her soul-tribe, even way back when!
She always loved reading and shopping, often at the same time. Living on a farm, sharing space with one horse, five dogs, and a million squirrels.
She has spent eight years volunteering to help immigrants and serves as the traffic guard at the Anthony Cemetery during funerals.
Betty has also been proud to serve on the El Paso High School Alumni Association Board since 2014—more or less.
Betty says life has been full of love, laughter, and friends—and says she wouldn’t change a thing.
