Anne Kelly

Anne Word Kelly was born in 1904 in El Paso, Texas. She was a member of a prominent El Paso pioneer family. Her Father, Charles, was a two term Mayor of El Paso. A proud and lifelong member of the El Paso community, she graduated from El Paso High School in January 1921, during a time when the school was known for its academic rigor and civic spirit. She went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, earning her degree in 1925. After completing her studies, Miss Kelly returned to her alma mater, where she dedicated more than 30 years of her life to teaching Mathematics. Known for her precision, discipline, and deep care for her students, she became a respected and beloved member of the faculty. Generations of El Paso High students benefited from her commitment to education and her belief in the power of math to open minds. Her legacy is one of loyalty, service, and excellence in education--anchored in her decades of work at one of Texas's most historic high schools. Anne passed away in May 1989.
